I got rid of MSI true color and that allowed the brightness to go up by a large amount. I am extremely happy with this one and it will definitely be a keeper. I'm not sure if there is a motherboard issue, since it appears the drive detection is flaky. I went ahead and used a LiveCD session to further troubleshoot, and had mixed results. Although it does see the Samsung SSD's in the hard drive menu, it was not detected on boot. After reboot, it appeared that the system could not find a bootable device, and automatically went into the BIOS menu. I tried using the MSI recovery restore, but it could not find the partition. This time, system restore would not recover the laptop. Then the same problems started happening a few days later.
HOW DOES MSI BURN RECOVERY WORK UPDATE
After disabling the Windows Update service for troubleshooting purposes, things seem to stabilize for a little while. At first, I thought it may be related to the recent Microsoft Updates. Recently, I've had issues that made the laptop boot into the troubleshooting menu, saying that it did not shut down correctly. Before posting this, I did a search on similar issues, but could not find anything related from my lookups. I figure i'd post it here as well, in case anyone other owner has had a similiar problem as well. The information below is what I've sent to the vendor, and I'm awaiting their response. All, I'm runnning into issues with my laptop I bought back in October.
